This book was exactly what I needed. The story follows Liora, a resilient heroine who makes the ultimate sacrifice to take her sister’s place when their village is forced to present a bride to an unnamed king during the blood moon. She expected a swift and terrible death, but when she arrives, the truth is nothing like the terrifying legends she was raised on. Instead of immediate challenges and battles to fight, she enters a completely unexpected situation and quickly realizes that survival means learning to trust others.
I absolutely loved Liora’s smart tongue and strong energy. She is exactly the kind of main character I enjoy rooting for, and her vibrant spirit is exactly what helps the king find the hope he needs to truly save his people. The pacing here was spot on—it’s a quick, high-stakes adventure that delivers a satisfying punch without ever feeling hurried.
Another massive highlight for me was the included playlist. I’m a huge fan of curated reading soundtracks, and this one was brilliant—it felt like every song was tailor-made to match the exact mood of its corresponding chapter. It’s the perfect teaser for the rest of the series, though I honestly enjoyed the world and the characters so much that I wish it had been just a little bit longer!
