The Spooky Season TBR Staple You Need to Read
Anything with the word exorcism in the title is usually enough to catch my attention and convince me to read the first few chapters just to see if it’s my cup of tea. I am thrilled to confirm that this is, in fact, my absolute favorite kind of cup.
After being burned and scorched by the dark academia genre one too many times (I won’t name the offending books here, but if you know me, you already know), this story was a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is gorgeously lush. It delivers the exact right amount of delicious, aching yearning without letting the romance overshadow the actual plot. When the spice does arrive, it feels completely earned—it doesn’t pop up out of nowhere, nor does it derail the narrative. Instead, it adds a layer of warmth and sweetness that makes the later scenes land even harder.
I was completely blown away by the world-building and lore. It offers a haunting, gothic spin on the fae that feels strikingly fresh and unlike anything else on my bookshelf—making it an absolute must-add for your spooky season TBR. Between the gorgeous, atmospheric story and a cover that is genuinely stunning, it’s the total package. To wrap up a dark, moody tale with an actual happily-ever-after is pure magic—handing over my heart, soul, and wallet feels like a fair trade.
You can tell how much care and intention went into the plotting. Every word feels deliberate and beautifully placed, rather than padded just to inflate the page count. I deeply respect an author who truly knows their craft and writes with that kind of precision.
