Glitz, Glam, and Vigilante Justice
Give me a dark thriller wrapped in a bow of murder and sisterhood, and I am completely sold. No judgment, please—I just love a suspenseful plot with a dark edge! This is my second book by this author, and it officially solidifies them as a go-to for me.
The story centers on Scout Sage, a rising star haunted by her sister’s mysterious death years ago. When a fresh string of bodies starts dropping and all signs point directly to Scout, her life quickly spirals into chaos.
Admittedly, the book and I got off to a slightly rocky start. The multiple perspectives felt a little jarring initially, and it took me a few chapters to sort out the players and find the rhythm of the narrative. But once everything clicked? I was fully hooked.
What really made this read stand out was how deeply we get to understand the characters. All the main players have distinct, compelling motivations driving their actions. Scout’s desperate quest for the truth contrasts brilliantly with the detective’s own fierce personal stakes, and because the author gives us such a strong grasp of who these women are, you can’t help but get invested in their choices.
The plot itself is a brilliant balancing act, juggling a vigilante justice angle, a gripping official investigation, and a Hollywood backdrop that screams “glamorous on the outside, rotten underneath.” Because of those themes, this book feels so incredibly fitting for the social climate we are in right now. It taps perfectly into modern conversations about institutional trust, accountability, and women taking matters into their own hands.
Fast, entertaining, and layered with plenty of sharp commentary beneath the glitz, this was an incredibly fun, timely ride. Highly recommend!
