Second Time’s a Charm
I apparently read this back in 2016 at the recommendation of a friend. I reread it in July—almost 10 years later—because I had it listed as a book club pick for my work book club. While it wasn’t ultimately chosen, one of my clients really wanted to read it, so we decided to do a buddy read together!
Coming back to Harry Dresden’s world in Chicago after a decade was such a fun experience. For this reread, I decided to go with the GraphicAudio dramatized adaptation, and I enjoyed it immensely! The full cast, atmospheric sound effects, and cinematic music really brought the gritty, noir urban fantasy vibe to life in a way a standard audiobook just can’t match. It turned Harry’s investigation into a truly immersive, movie-like experience.
As a series opener, Storm Front does a fantastic job laying down the foundations of the world—introducing us to the supernatural underbelly of Chicago, the looming threat of black magic, and Harry’s dry, cynical humor. It’s fast-paced, atmospheric, and just plain fun.
I’m so glad my buddy read partner gave me the perfect excuse to revisit this one. If she wants to continue the series, I would be completely okay doing the next ones with her—especially if we stick with the GraphicAudio versions!
